Installing Snippets Exchange Extensions
- Launch the Extension Manager. Command»
Manage Extensions.
- Once the Extension Manager Appears, choose File»
Install Extension.
- Browse to the downloaded Snippet (which should be in Dreamweaver/Downloaded
Extensions/Snippets Exchange folder if you followed the recommendation
made on the previous page).
- Once you have installed the extension, if you're using Massimo
Foti's Classic Snippets Panel version 1.1 or greater you can click
the Refresh List Icon
. Otherwise if you use Dreamweaver MX, you'll need to restart
Dreamweaver if it is open in order to update its native Snippets
panel. If you are using an earlier version than 1.1 of the Classic
Snippets Panel, you will need to import the snippets from Configuration\Classic
Snippets using the panel's import button.
See the Classic Snippets Panel Help Documentation for more information
regarding the use of the Refresh List Icon and Import feature.
Managing Snippets Exchange Extensions
Once you have installed several Snippets Exchange Extensions you
may notice that the Extension Manager is getting a little full.
If you wish to clear these entries, be sure to follow the directions
for the Snippets panel version you are using, Classic Snippets Panel
or the native Dreamweaver MX Snippets panel.
Classic Snippets Panel Users Only!
- Export all Snippets to a safe location. See
the Export Snippets section of the Help Documentation included
with the Snippets Panel for more information.
- Open the Extension Manager.
- Click the Snippets Exchange Extension Entry.
Remember: Snippets Exchange Extensions
are always classified as Code Snippets and are named SMX followed
by a 4 digit id and version number. You may sort the list alphabetically
by clicking the Installed Extensions header. Since all Snippets
Exchange Extensions start with SMX you will see them grouped together
as shown below.

- Choose File»
Remove Extension to permanently remove
the extension. You will be prompted to confirm that you
wish to remove the extension. Click OK.
- Import the Snippets you just Exported.
See the Export Snippets section of the Help Documentation included
with the Snippets Panel
for more information.
Now the Extension Manager is less cluttered and you still have
all your Snippets! If you're a registered memberof this site, your downloaded Snippets are listed for
you in the My Snippets section.
Dreamweaver MX Snippets panel Users Only!
- Search your system for the Configuration\Snippets folder. This
could be in either Dreamweaver MX's main configuration or in another
location if you're using an operating system that supports multi-user
configurations.
- Once you have located the Snippets folder, verify that it contains
folders with .CSN files within them.
- Copy all folders and files while maintainging their structure.
- Paste them to a new location far away from their current location.
- Open the Extension Manager.
- Click the Snippets Exchange Extension Entry.

are ones that were already in your panel before installing Snippets
Exchange Snippets. You can say No to All. The rest of your snippets
whose entries were removed from the Extension Manager should be
in place.
- Restart Dreamweaver and your panel should contain all the snippets
it had before.
